Apollo’s Vision Computer Clubs, Inc. is a safe learning environment that caters to children’s interests and learning styles. Children as young as 8 explore their own ideas, and work with adult mentors, who help them develop skills and build confidence through the use of technology.
The environment in the club is designed to put students in charge of their own learning by supporting learning through design experiences. Student work is self-directed, and is geared to encourage students to recognize, trust, develop, and deepen their own interests and talents. Children get exposed to “real work” experiences, as they become designers and producers of computer-based products, even before they have the chance to be part of the workforce.
The different programs in the club were designed to incite interest in the sciences and enable youth to engage in inquiry-rich experiences, and to provide educators with a model for the use of technology as tools for design, scientific experimentation, self-expression, creativity, and collaboration.
